Cherry is a common American wood used extensively for furniture and flooring. The sapwood is quite light, almost white, while heartwood varies from very light to a fairly deep brown. Freshly milled cherry is often very light in color and easily mistaken for maple if you don't look closely. Cherry darkens fairly rapidly when exposed to light, eventually assuming a rich, brown color. Even fluorescent light is sufficient to cause a color change. Cherry is the softest and lightest of the hardwoods we use to make miniSpinners.
- The toggle switch has been replaced by a button with a bicolor LED to indicate direction, foot switch mode, and error situations,
- The button turns the miniSpinner on/off with soft-start and -stop,
- Direction and foot switch mode are saved and restored when you connect power to your miniSpinner; set once and forget it,
- Better fault detection: High or low input voltage (detects when you use the wrong power supply or voltage setting on your battery), excessive load warning (e.g., too much brake tension), overload, motor stalled, and a few more,
- Support for an optional LCD display that will show RPM, direction, foot switch mode, percentage of power used (to help you set your brake properly or diagnose excessive drag - usually a dirty WW), and plain-text error displays.
- The new controller is also slightly more robust than the present one so should be more tolerant of (gentle) face plants that would damage the present controller.
Welcome to the 21st century! The HansenCrafts miniSpinnertm is the lightest, most compact, technically advanced e-spinner that is commercially available today. It's also quiet, attractive, and a very capable spinner.
miniSpinners are easy to use. There's no need to coordinate treadling with handling your fiber. The flyer-lead design has light draw-in which is easy on your hands, and the continuously variable speed control makes it simple to dial in exactly the speed you need for the diameter of thread you're spinning. Unlike a treadle wheel, there's no need to deal with ratios to change the speed of your flyer! Changing speed is just a matter of turning the dial.
Ergonomics: With a miniSpinner, you don’t have to sit in a fixed position as you would with a treadle wheel. You don’t risk repetitive stress injury of your feet, knees, and ankles by treadling. You can shift your position to find the most comfortable position to spin on your miniSpinner. You can stand, or even recline, to spin!
Make Better Quality Yarn: miniSpinners maintain a nearly constant speed (determined by you), unlike treadle wheels which vary as you apply power impulses by treadling. A miniSpinner’s more uniform speed, along with our soft-start and soft-stop features, presents a uniquely smooth spinning experience which experienced spinners often notice and comment about. This helps you create a more consistent rate of twist in your fiber. Furthermore, because your brain isn’t distracted by the need to treadle, you can focus entirely on drafting your fiber, which improves your diameter control.
Beginners: Just getting started? You’ll progress far more rapidly when you can focus entirely on drafting your fiber, undistracted by treadling, starting in the right direction, ratios, and other skills required to operate a traditional spinning wheel.
Experienced spinner? You'll love the convenience, portability, quiet, and ease of using a miniSpinner. Long-time spinners are always amazed at the smooth spinning experience a miniSpinner offers. You'll love it.
Physical issues? miniSpinners are ideal if you have physical difficulties. If you have issues with treadling, a miniSpinner will make spinning possible—and enjoyable.
Portability and Travel: Traveling with a miniSpinner is a breeze. You can easily bring your miniSpinner to a friend’s house, a spinning event, or a class. Because it requires so little power, a miniSpinner will run all day on a small rechargeable battery; you don’t need to be near an electrical outlet. You can easily bring it along in your carry-on bag or in its own tote bag. Use your miniSpinner in a car, RV, or boat (a 12 volt cord is included). Some people even spin (in economy class!) on long flights!
Limited space: We live in smaller spaces than people did in the past. Your miniSpinner can live on a bookshelf when not in use, completely out of the way, but readily available.
Isn't it cheating? This question used to come up often at fiber events, but not anymore! The best tools are those you don't need to think about when you use them. Consider your car, your mobile telephone, your household appliances, sewing machines, woodworking tools - all modern conveniences that make your life easier and better. A miniSpinner is just a modern, better, tool you can use to make superior yarn. Thousands of miniSpinner owners all over the world agree.

Bobbin (lace): 2.75" diameter x 5.78" long, 27.4 cubic inch capacity (up to 8 ounces depending on fiber diameter and density).
Speed: Continuously variable from 0 to 2,000 RPM with lace flyer, 1600 RPM with standard flyer, 1400 RPM with WooLee Winder flyer.
Motor: Powerful, high-quality 12 volt DC motor, reversible.
Power supply: 12 volts DC, 1.5 amps maximum, typically less than 0.5 amps.
Speed controller: State-of-the-art programmable PIC microcontroller-based pulse width modulation (PWM) with overload protection, soft-start, and soft-stop for gentle starts and stops.
Remote/foot switch: Configurable as tap-ON/tap-OFF or "deadman" mode (hold down for ON, let up for OFF).
Tachometer Sensor Magnets:
The tachometer sensor magnets are used to determine the RPM of the flyer; the Pro and Classic V2 minispinners are able to display this information when we begin producing our LCD display, which plugs into the foot switch jack.
All HansenCrafts flyers now include these magnets, but older flyers and WooLee Winders lack them. So: If you are purchasing a WooLee Winder and wish to show RPM when the display is available, for an additional $15.00, you can order these magnets.
This is awesome!

I received my Hansen espinner for Christmas and I started spinning right away! It is so quiet, you only hear the air flowing around the bobbin. it was an investment I had planned for a long time; I researched other espinners but I am glad I chose the Hansen espinner which is the best on the market. I cannot wait to order accessories!
Spin quickly and in comfort!

I ordered my Hansen Mini Spinner after much thought and contemplation. I am a pretty traditional person so using an espinner naturally felt against nature! I decided to toss that thought out the door and go for it. First off, I ordered on a Friday night and there was issues with the web site. I emailed and got a very quick response about the issue and called on Monday morning to get it all sorted out. They were able to change the order and fix all of the issues (mostly my confusion). The espinner was at my door on Thursday! So a+ on customer service!!! I jumped right in and spun up a 4 ounce braid from start to finish (2 ply) in about 6 hours over two days all while SITTING IN MY BED catching up on my shows. How wonderful is that! If you are hesitating, quit. Just go for it. It is beautiful and wonderfully constructed. I found it really easy to understand and it comes with such detailed instructions to make it clear! I am so happy with my decision!
Of course it's great!

I love it! Where on earth could you find the combination of my favorite wood (cherry) and an electronic spinner with the best technology available? I have MS, and even if I didn't I'd still own this! It's NOT cheating!
Really good decision...

I've been a spinner for years and this is an amazing tool. I can get precise control with little to no work. And the cherry wood will deepen over time. Best purchase ever.
I love this spinner!

I'm a relatively new spinner (under two years) and I was in the market for a very portable wheel. I liked the idea of the minispinner and for health reasons decided now was the time. I was not disappointed! I can spin ANYWHERE and it is so light even compared to other travel wheels. I was up and spinning on it in less than 10 mins and I love this wheel to pieces.

I have been spinning for 20 years and recently, after a few hours of spinning, my back screams at me and I have to take a break. I NEVER thought I would ever spin on an electric spinner....well, never got a lot shorter all of a sudden, because after seeing them at Rhinebeck this fall, I came home, did a little more homework, and ordered one. I am enjoying spinning more than ever now. What a fantastic little machine....quiet, portable. Really amazing. Love it!!!!
