The HansenCrafts Handheld Yarn Ball Winder (HYBW) is simple and easy to use.
First, wrap one or two turns of yarn around the groove in the bottom of the core that holds the ball.
Next, thread your yarn through the yarn guide.
Hold the YBW as though it is a fishing reel, with the yarn under your forefinger for tensioning.
The yarn guide and ball core should be horizontal, pointing either left (if you crank with your
right hand) or right (if you’re a leftie).
You can crank either clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Turn the crank to begin winding the yarn onto the core; use little or no tension for the first couple of
turns so the yarn will center on the core. You can slide it up or down to center the ball if you like
though I usually just let it find its own center.
To tension the yarn, hold it with your forefinger; only a little tension is required.
That’s it! The HYBW can wind up to around 5 ounce balls.
