The 3mm quill is used similar to a charka, though it is not as fast.  It is good for spinning delicate fiber with virtually no tension.  You insert it into the miniSpinner's orifice and then spin off the tip of the quill.

Many people purchase the larger quill to use as a bobbin winder for inexpensive storage bobbins or weaving bobbins, thereby making their miniSpinner an electric bobbin winder.
